Databases

Create databases, manage who can connect to them, install another engine, and download exports.

A database in OSS Panel is a real database on one of the engines installed on the server, plus the users allowed to sign in to it and the firewall rule that decides where those users may connect from. The panel creates all three together so an application has something to point at the moment it is made.

Applications that need one — WordPress, Nextcloud, Moodle and the rest — get a database automatically when you create them. The screens here are for the ones you create yourself, and for looking after all of them afterwards.

The Databases screen

Databases in the sidebar is the whole picture: which engines are running, every database on the server, and how big each one is.

The Databases screen showing MySQL 8.0.46, MongoDB 8.0.32 and PostgreSQL 16.15 running, a warning that one database is not linked to an application, and a table of three databases with engine, application, size, users and last export

The row of chips at the top is the engines. A green dot means the service is running; the number next to it is the version. Anything not installed yet appears as an Install button instead — see Database engines.

The table below lists every database the panel knows about:

ColumnWhat it tells you
NameThe database name, as the engine sees it. Links to its own page.
EngineWhich engine it lives on. One server can run several.
ApplicationThe application it belongs to, or Not linked.
SizeOn-disk size, refreshed when the panel polls the engine.
UsersHow many database users can sign in to it.
Last exportWhen you last downloaded a copy, or Never.

Sort by clicking Name, Engine or Users. The search box filters by name as you type, which is the fast way through a server hosting dozens of sites.

Not linked means not backed up

Backups run per application, so a database with no application attached is in no backup. The panel says so in a banner above the list, and Show them filters down to the offenders. Either attach it to an application from the database's own page, or take your own exports.
